By Augustus Bill

In her weekly Radio program Daring Exposé at Unizik FM, Association of Persons Living with Sickle Cell Disorder, today, beckoned on the Actors Guild of Nigeria and other entertainment heavyweights to join in the sickle cell sensitization campaign so as to end the proliferation of the Disorder in the country.

The Coordinator of the Association, Aisha Edward, who spoke during the radio program, highlighted mobility as one of the biggest challenges bedevilling the Association, and called on well-meaning Nigerians to extend their hands of charity to the association. She said that being victims of the sickle cell disorder, places them at a high risk of leg ulcers, and this becomes a worrisome issue, as it hampers their mobility in spreading the campaign across states.

Aisha highlighted that it was debasing of the moral standards of most celebrated entertainers who would rather soil their names in dubious events, especially in fraudulent pageants than extend help to the less privileged in their towns. She frowned at the trend where Celebrities neglect their homes, only to be brought back to the same homes when they die.

She further advised traditional rulers to desist from the conferment of chieftaincy titles to these public figures who in all their wealth have done nothing to their hometowns, but would always return home during festive periods to flaunt their wealth and go back to the cities and ignore the plights in their roots.

In the same vein of appeal, Aisha solicited for a bus for her association, who she said has been challenged by the issue of mobility, he beckoned on the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano and other Public Figures and astute politicians in the state to rise to the occasion and make such generous provisions for them, so as to enable the association foster the strength it has already garnered in the sickle cell campaign.

However, the Association seized the opportunity to inform the general public and her members especially of her Annual Christmas get together to hold on the 17TH of December and the Thanksgiving Mass to follow on the 18th. She said it became necessary to Host the Grand Event during December, so that the Association could accommodate victims who have indicated interest in joining the Association from Lagos, Abuja and other Northern States.

The Association, However, appeals to the generous hearts of Individuals and Cooperate bodies to aid her in achieving a wonderful End of the feast which is usually very significant to them Courtesy of their expected Welfare Packages from Their Benefactors. The coordinator solicited that the church provide any of her choir to join the association in a sonorous gospel worship, as such is not only therapeutic to her members, but also another way they show appreciation for keeping them thus far.

On a sad note, it was announced of the departure of one of the members of the Association who lost his life to the disorder in the previous week. The Association solemnly prayed for the happy repose of Mr Somtochukwu OJUKWU From Amwbia ANAMBRA State.
